One of the characters "Christine" is a struggling artist trying to find her way in the creative community. Christine sends a video to a museum where she wishes to display her work, and it falls into the hands of the curator. At the end of her video she sends a message to the curator expressing here doubts about her video being watched or receiving a response. But in the off chance her video is viewed, even if the curator doesn't want to display Christine's work, she asks the curator to call her and just simply say "Macaroni".
This part of the movie had me think for a moment about my own experiences applying for jobs, and trying to find my break in the design community.
My last interview I was told had somewhere around 475 applicants, so I realize how hard it is for an employer to take the time to call every single applicant back. But I do think an employer should realize how much time, research, and preparation goes into those cover letters, resumes, and websites we provide you with. A phone call, or an email informing you where you stand is not to much to ask for.
As a result of watching this movie I have decided to adopt Christine's approach to rejection, and ask that if you are an employer who has found your way to my website to respond back and let me know where I stand. If I am not the right fit for your position just simply say "Macaroni". After all just because I am not the right fit doesn't mean we can't be creative and have a little fun.
